Best in Show & Dog CC - Phillips' Ch Dimara Gorgeous George JW Reserve Dog CC - Phillips' Dimara Top O'Th Morning |
I appreciate the efforts made by the Committee & Exhibitors to attend this show under such atrocious weather conditions. Whilst I accept that the entry was marred by the fairly significant absentee rate caused by the weather, if what I saw today is representative of the state of the breed today, then the breed has significant problems. I was shocked to find the number of shallow chests I did, usually accompanied by short ribbing and no sternum to speak of. Basically I put my hand underneath only to wonder when it would ever stop; and this fault affected bitches & dogs alike For a breed that comes from a native environment where that air is rarefied, where is the lung & heart room supposed to come from? With the short ribbing it gave longer and weaker loins, leading to weak toplines. Also sadly, ten to two or Charlie Chaplin fronts were evident; I thought these had gone a good number of years Finally, there is the issue of some exhibits being overweight; this should never be mistaken for muscle. Good construction will only remain to be good if it is covered by correct, firm muscle to hold the skeleton together. I am sorry if exhibitors feel I am being negative about your much beloved breed, but unless these matters are addressed, the quality of the breed will fall and it will be hard to remedy the situation in years to come. On the positive side, heads were generally good with only few exceptions, it is hard to get the balance of a head that is either too broad or too narrow. On the whole the temperaments were excellent, save the odd hormonal bitch, and we all have them from time to time in any breed. It was also lovely to see a habit of years ago where the undercoat was stripped out, has all but vanished.
Class 1 Minor Puppy Dog - 10 (4 Abs) 1st Casling's Magic Moonlight for Meranne - Delightful outgoing male, head yet to finish as one would expect at this age but no doubting his masculinity. Strong neck leading into well placed shoulders, good level topline. Angles at front & rear are as they should be, steady, jaunty drive and standing on nicely made feet with firm pads. Head and tail carriage spot on, not sure that he knows the meaning of "aloof" as yet as he is very outgoing, but has true Tibetan characteristics, he is important and don't I know it, should have a very bright future. Best Puppy Dog & Best Puppy in Show 2nd Waterhouse's Chtaura Follow Me Follow You - Pleasing in most departments, good head and muzzle, good neck & shoulders carries his topline well for most of the time but does not have the full control of his rear movement at present. Requires a shade more muscle to his thighs and a little more strength to his loin to resolve this, but it is a development issue rather than one of structure Overall nice type with good balance and I think he too will have a bright future. 3rd Taylor's Tilantoe Orange Cream Res Horne's Chanceinn's Will I Am Vhc Nicholson & Ness' Kutani Desert Storm at Calmarlin
Class 2 Puppy Dog 5 (1 Abs) 1st Casling's Magic Moonlight for Meranne 2nd Nicholson & Ness' Kutani Desert Storm at Calmarlin - Raw youngster, not really together as yet and did not always give his handler an easy time. At the moment he is unbalanced, strong head set on not so well developed neck. Rib cage well sprung, short loin, uncontrolled rear movement, front movement far better than rear. He needs more muscle all round to bring everything together. Bit of an age and stage time for him and will take some to develop Just beat the third placed dog on control of front movement. 3rd Allan's Shenedene Amazing Houdini Res Davidson-Jones' Peakajay I'm Geno
Class 3 Junior Dog 5 (2 Abs) 1st Whitehead's Hopeinn's Adrenaline Junkie at Chanceinn - Substantial male, hope he does not grow on too much more. He has rear angulation, but owner tends to overstretch him which can spoil his topline. Pleasing shoulders and topline when allowed to stand freely, tail set not his fortune; it is a little low but carries it well over his back despite this. Reasonable movement, shade less weight may help him to drive more, especially if he were to develop more muscle 2nd Povey's Timazinti Paddy Paws - Really quite raw at the moment, hit the teenage stage big style. He has good balance, but very much in need of body development to bring the very best out of him. Movement ill controlled and poorly coordinated, he needs both body and muscle to allow him to show his full potential, and when this comes, I think he will present a very different picture, of which he showed glimpses of in the next class. 3rd Smith's Annmia Beau O'Bella
Class 4 Yearling Dog 3 (1 Abs) 1st Crooks Nanas Little Darling - Much to like about this one but I assume he comes from a slow developing line. Everything in place but not as well developed as his peer group. He is in need of both body and muscle to give of his best. Pleasing angles fore and aft, nice topline, and loin could be stronger, and his ribs need to spring a shade more. I don't think he will be at his best until much older and I think he will take everyone by surprise when his time comes. Much potential. 2nd Povey's Timazinti Paddy Paws
Class 5 Maiden Dog 3 (1 Abs) 1st Casling's Magic Moonlight for Meranne 2nd Taylor's Tilantoe Orange Cream - Body more mature than brain and attitude to the show ring. When he gets his act together, presents a lovely picture. The problem is he never allows it to be seen for long. In fairness he is still a minor, has a lot of growing and developing to do but what he has seems to be good & bodes well for the future given time, I think he will do well.
Class 6 Novice Dog 4 (1 Abs) 1st Whitehead's Hopeinn's Adrenaline Junkie at Chanceinn 2nd Allan's Shenedene Amazing Houdini - Why did he not present as well as this in his 1st class? He was giving a lot away to the winner in respect of age and development. Everything in place for him to burgeon into a very exciting prospect for the future & had more control of his front this time and better deportment. Loads to like about him and once he has muscle, I think he will beat a path to the top. 3rd Crook's Nanas Little Darling
Class 7 Graduate Dog 1 (1 Abs)
Class 8 Post Graduate Dog 8 (1 Abs) 1st Phillips' Dimara Top O'Th Morning - Reminded me of the males we saw in the Hardacre, Orora & Saxonspring era, undoubtedly masculine and sturdy. Well balanced with plenty of muscle and that was evident in his drive on the move, pushed hard and almost floated around the ring. I found nothing that concerned me and nothing I would want to change at all. Very well presented and handled. Half brother to my CC winner and sharing many of his qualities.Res CC 2nd Cassidy's Exephials Smoking Gun - Another I suspect that comes from slow developing lines. Although he possesses a slightly smaller frame than the winner, you can tell his gender at first glance. He is as he should be in all departments, well made but just not the body development of the winner. He has drive from the rear, has a well controlled front and it is as sound as they come. Lovely topline moving and standing. Beautiful coat, not a hair out of place and the best presentation of the day. His day will come, of that I am sure. 3rd Hamilton's Gilderdale G'Day Res Clifford's Rossgilde To Spin a Secret at Woonona ShCM Vhc Harrison's Brendella's Old Spice JW ShCM
Class 9 Limit Dog 7 (3 Abs) One of the most perplexing classes of the day, three lovely males but a case of judging dogs on the day 1st Bateman's Kutani Dante's Inferno at Baltoro - Pleasing male well bodied and muscled, nice balance, strong neck and sound topline and movement, but not as mature as the second placed dog. I liked him, but not enough to give him top honours, he needs more finish and a shade more maturity. Given time I am quite sure he will go all the way. 2nd Luscott's Jalus Krystiano JW - My disappointment of the day, because the minute I saw him, I thought he was going to be my winner, loved his head, his overall balance, fantastic depth of chest and spring of rib, but on the day, just seemed to throw his chances away, especially on the front movement. One minute it was controlled, the next it was all over the place and I gave him as many chances as I could. I know the owner must have been disappointed as he is very much up my street for type, balance and true Apso attitude. I hope to see him at sometime in the future when he has his act together. 3rd Chalmers' Chethang Nikodemus JW Res Edwards & McDougall's Zuthis Hot Chatter of Quito ShCM
Class 10 Open Dog 6 (2 Abs) 1st Phillips' Ch Dimara Gorgeous George JW - On first sight not the most impressive dog but examination really changes that. Masculine, sturdy 100% positive on the move, has body and muscle and knows how to use them. Like his half brother, he takes me back more years than I care to remember. Nothing about him I would want to change, not even his colour, which at times I am sure has counted against him. CC & Best in Show 2nd Horne's Hopeinn's Take That at Chanceinn 3rd Povey's Perjena Ice and Fire Res Ogden's Absosengkye Donny
Class 11 Veteran Dog 4 (2 Abs) 1st Waterhouse's Ch/Am Ch Chtaura Dream Machine (re-imp) - A father & son duo here and both very worthy Champions. The father was the winner, on the basis that he put slightly more into his movement especially on the rear drive. Lovely head on good strong neck, kept his topline at all times, good proportions all round and in excellent muscle for his age, very hard to believe he is the age he is. 2nd Scarll's Ch Timazinti Motoro JW - Stunning expression, exemplifies the aloof aspect, especially in the head carriage, lovely front, with well placed shoulders, stunning coat and an absolute credit to his owner for his condition all round.
Class 12 Minor Puppy Bitch 6 (4 Abs) 1st Waterhouse's Chtaura Hot in the City - Sweet feminine bitch with head of good proportions, nicely balanced all round. There was not much to separate these two at all but I felt the winner had a shade stronger loin. Carries herself well, standing & moving, very promising future ahead of her I would think. 2nd Roberts Tilantoe Crem de Menth - Like the winner she possesses a sweet feminine head of good proportions, nicely balanced all round. I would prefer just a little bit more muscle over the loin and on her thighs. That said, I think she has a very promising future ahead of her.
Class 13 Puppy Bitch 12 (2 Abs) 1st Atkinson's Maggie's Holly Berry - Nice trio, all at very different ages and stages in their respective development. The winner just carried that little more muscle which shows in the way she can control her movement, sound and positive at all times and is able to show her virtues when stacked, holds herself together well. She does not have the tightest of tail sets at present, seemed to be a bit temperamental on that matter, but all round a pleasing exhibit. Best Puppy Bitch & Res Best Puppy in Show 2nd Allenby's Anniseed Precious - Liked this young lady too but found her a shade heavy over the shoulders, carrying a pound or two she could well do without. It makes her roll a little when coming towards. Otherwise nicely balanced, good deportments on the move, sags very slightly when stacked. If the weight issue is managed I think she has a bright future. 3rd Davidson-Jones Raushanara Over the Moon for Peakajay Res Lawson's Rishlyn Renaissance Vhc Egglestone's Meranne Kandy Kisses
Class 14 Junior Bitch 14 (5 Abs) 1st Horne's Chanceinn's Bewitched - Sassy, brassy and full of her own self importance with a short attention span what more could you want? A lovely, well made bitch with a pleasing head and good topline. When focused on what she is doing has the most beautiful outline and ring presence, but she is easily distracted, typical teenager in that respect. Nothing about her I would want to change, maturity of mind will help her along her way, but she has time on her side and I think it is better she enjoys her outings until she is finished her development. Sure to have a bright future 2nd Atkinson's Maggie's Holly Berry 3rd Anderson's Whoopie Go Lucky Res Scarll's Timazinti Kittie Vhc McNally & Walkers Michaedo Jewel of Tibet
Class 15 Yearling Bitch 8 (3 Abs) 1st Horne's Chanceinn's Bewitched 2nd Roach's Anjesics Dream Maker - Loads to like about this one, super head, lovely neck, good topline & great rear action. Her deficit is that of her front movement, as she seems to trip over her abundant coat as she comes towards. The angles of her shoulders are good, although she could do with a shade more muscle on her front half and perhaps this would resolve the issue, along with some thinning of the feet and chest hair 3rd Horne's Lippylou's Sugar Muffin Res Horne's Hopeinn's Eternal Dream Vhc Taylor's Deelayne Suzi Hush at Jerami
Class 16 Maiden Bitch 6 (1 Abs) 1st Horne's Chanceinn's Bewitched 2nd Roberts Tilantoe Crem de Menth 3rd Allenby's Anniseed Precious Res Taylor's Deelayne Suzi Hush at Jerami Vhc Anderson's Princess Loobeloo
Class 17 Novice Bitch 7 1st Horne's Chanceinn's Bewitched 2nd Allenby's Anniseed Precious 3rd Anderson's Whoopie Go Lucky Res Taylor's Deelayne Suzi Hush at Jerami Vhc Anderson's Princess Loobeloo
Class 18 Graduate Bitch 3 (2 Abs) 1st Eggleston's Meranne Kandy Kisses - I found a lot about this bitch that pleased, however she is very much in the teenage stage, just a little bit awkward at present. I think if she were to turn some of her weight into muscle, she would present a very much improved picture. Structurally, everything is sound; the outline with an improved figure would be very eye catching indeed, a few more walks and a few less treats are the order of the day here.
Class 19 Post Graduate Bitch 7) Lovely and exciting class. 1st Cassidy's Exephials Smile in the Dark - Litter sister to my 2nd in PG Dog and it tells upon examination, but I think she has the edge over her brother. She has the same self-possessed deportment, stunning expression with the very darkest of eyes and her balance is beautiful. I strongly considered her for the RCC but in fairness she needs more time. Again put down to perfection, not a hair out of place and a coat that must be envied by many. She has muscle and a good strong loin, will watch her future with interest, if she stays on track will surely gain her crown. 2nd Phillips' Dimara Irish Mist - I liked this bitch enormously too, litter sister to the winner of PG Dog, this time the brother having the edge over her, but really like the winner of this class, if there is any justice she will gain top honours in time. Sound in all departments, nothing about either of these two I would change 3rd Iredale's Rienach Lexi at Lianderville Res Bridgen's Lapchis Lilly of the Dales Vhc Ogden's Absosengkye Princess
Class 20 Limit Bitch 5 (1 Abs) 1st Bateman's Kutani Love Affair at Baltoro - Feminine and sound was all that went through my mind with this one, she had everything and was prepared to flaunt it for all to see. Sound coming and going, holds her topline both on the move and when standing, presents a lovely outline at all times, good head & neck, well presented and handled, happy to award her with what I learned later was her 2nd CC, hope the 3rd comes soon, she is so worth it. Reserve Best in Show 2nd Scarll's Timazinti Hope and Dreams - My disappointment of the bitches. She was unhappy being examined on the table, but as soon as she was on the floor forgot about that and put in a sterling performance, until she was stacked and again she seemed a lot less happy. My thought was that she was a bit hormonal. Hard to fault in all departments, she is well made with lovely balance and quality coming out of her ears; another show, another day methinks. 3rd Horne's Chanceinn's Wizadora JW Res Hamilton's Gilderdale Miss Wagit
Class 21 Open Bitch 9 (5 Abs) None of these girls gave of their best, although all were of good quality and provided strong competition for one another 1st Roach's Cossy's Pistachio Kiss at Anjesics - Hard to fault and nothing I would really wish to change. Liked her head, pleasing neck & shoulders with a good topline, sound enough coming and going, correct double coat, but just failed to shine at the end of a long cold day. 2nd Paju's Chic Choix Chic Is It - Much the same comments for this one as the winner, however I would guess has suffered a coat change of late and requires more undercoat and perhaps she could lose a pound or two in weight to give the best of her otherwise sound movement. These are minor changes and nothing constructional to concern here. 3rd Gay's Hazgaye La Costadais Res Waterhouse's Chtaura Sealed With a Kiss
Class 22 Veteran Bitch 4 (2 Abs) 1st Waterhouse's Ch Chtaura All U Need is Luv JW - I seem to remember that I saw this one as a youngster and awarded her a RCC back then. Lovely type, beautiful expression, well made, has the good construction I expect from this kennel. She has ring presence and is sound both coming & going, but she was not quite on the form of the CC winner today and had to be content with the RCC again. 2nd McNally's Angadema Ask for Me
